Character Name: Erwin Smith
Series: Attack on Titan
Age/Gender: Late 30s/Male
Canon Point: chapter 49
History: [WIKI]
Personality:
Special Abilities: For starters he's still alive. The commanding head officer of the Scouting Legion. Combat skill and control of the 3DMG racked only 2ed to his Lance Corporals. His ability and intelligence to plan and control situations phenomenal, considering 70% of all men/woman that returned form each expedition came back dead before Erwin and now that number rests at a lovely 30%. Tactical genius. A true gray sue.
How did your character die? A friendly crushing from Reiner Braun after his considerate slash to Mr. Fubar. He has not died in canon (but oh ho ho who knows? Soon?) but if he were to die I would canon update him.

Currently my objective lies in finding more about the events that have lead to my death, as well as the mysteries that surround this school including; shadows, the afterlife, and the phenomenon that is others coming form different space and times. Men and woman form my own world speak as if they’ve died when certainly they have not, some remember vividly while others memories are clouded with haze.
My last objective? The pursuit of the Colossal and Armored Titan, my death ensued from a violate crushing from Mr. Reiner Braun on his attempts of escape. The only mystery that still is untold from this is if they were, in fact, captured. From my understanding this world and even my death perhaps may only be a figment of imagination. What is real and what is only a dream is yet to be seen.. The inner workings of the mind may be tampered with, my hypotheses is much of this confusion is linked with shadows. Thus research on NPCs, shadows, and angel players must be further explored.
Third Person:
“Erwin, what the fuck is all of this shit?”
Spring rolls around, same time, every year, whether you want it to or not, the year progress and time always goes by. Every year, same time, Levi always demands the headquarters to be stripped down and cleaned. From front to back, top to bottom, inch by inch the place requires mopping, dusting, and in some cases; cutting, waxing, or sharpening. This year Levi seemed determined to rip apart what few things (garbage) Erwin had left form his days as a cadet. All it did was sit in the closet, collecting dust and being generally useless. However, despite it’s uselessness something always catches your eye when looking thought things that aren’t yours.
A sketchbook full of drawing, rather good, tasteful, drawings.
“Hum?” Glancing over to his Lance Corporal, not noticing the mangy tablet at first, walking over in his same orderly fashion as always taking it from Levi, flipping through the pages with that same blank expression he’d worn for over five years now.
“Ah—This is my childhood sketchpad. I used to draw during my years in training to keep my mind off the aches and pains that would follow such physical labor, my body still growing at that age which was a large contributor.” Not that Levi would understand growing pains..
A snarl at the mention of growth, such a common look for The World’s Strongest Man, “You drew these?” he scoffs, “I guess you do all that drawing shit with your maps and whatever-the-fuck but art-y shit? Didn’t think you were the type.”
Quiet, such a common death like view from silent eyes, that’s when you know he’s thinking. The drawing in question that was on the open page was of a woman, large and stocky. Deep inside you feel something swell but the emotion just won’t come, where you looking at a picture of a human being or was it nothing but paper and lead? It decays and burns as such, its value limited, if valued at all. “It’s a shame; these drawings mean nothing to me now that I’m grown. You may do as you please with them, Levi. They are but clutter now.”

C H A R A C T E R I N F O
Character Name: Erwin Smith
Series: Attack on Titan
Age/Gender: Late 30s/Male
Canon Point: chapter 49
History: [WIKI]
Personality:
What an organized bag of only moderately wet cats.
Erwin Smith is a broken individual, having sacrificed himself to humanities cause long ago. His personally shines through thick cracks of his harden surface. He is everything you picture of a commanding officer in a world full of death, disregarding human life for the sake of victory. In fact, victory is the only thing fuelling him, taking each day by not a number of lives saved or taken but by either a victory or failure. Willing to let his men die for his goals, knowing the only way to save more lives is to not treat them as such. His trust in his team is hard to see by others, however, Erwin knows full well how to read the minds of his men. Holding many of them close in his dead decaying heart—or perhaps more so close in his thoughts, knowing full well which unit has what purpose. No pushover in the least, sadly for spies, being the first to tell he had moles in his group leaking information.
Some see him as a monster but deep inside that is truly not the case, Erwin has simple stopped feeling, stopped ‘growing.’ Whatever man he once was is now sealed away deep inside and only comes out in little sparks of pleasure or happiness form his closest units. He doesn’t seem to understand what makes him appear such a violate man nor a monstrous killer though he accepts what has been deemed of him. Honestly, his hope in finally victory seemed rather farfetched before Eren nestled nicely into the Scouting Legions grasp and yet even then he knows humanities fate lies with Eren, not him, not the Scouting Legion, just the 15 year-old titan shifter who needs their help to fight the odds.
That isn’t to say he gives the protagonist the benefit of the doubt, Erwin is a strong believer of the powerful must be contained hence his foreshowing bullshit about evil government power. Having a strange relationship with Eren to be perfectly honest, in my opinion, Erwin is having a hard time dealing with the fact Eren could end this war someday. A lot rests on his shoulders, and though many of his men see him as a father the act of being a mentor isn’t something familiar, a dictator for terms more appropriate, so interactions with Eren seem so shaky. He knows how to contain and control Eren, making sure Levi, his strongest man, is in charge of his care. The idea if Erwin actual fears Eren isn’t so clear, I feel his standoffish and yet fatherly, even friendly actions towards Eren are proof that Erwin is desperate to get along. It’s new and strange and it’s hard for someone so broken to determine how close to let someone, something, so uncontrolled and violently unstable. If Erwin is to hate Eren I feel his hatred is poured entirely into a pure distaste for Shifters in general, children with such unmonitored power have caused the deaths of many. That might be where that strange fatherly vibe comes from, to guild and show Eren the correct path, or in most fathers eyes their way. It’s just such a bazaar relationship, if you look at his other close relationship with his team you do not see the same man, Erwin has some inner feeling towards Eren that I just can’t explain and it’s hard for him to express obviously.
A good note is that Erwin see’s Eren’s death much differently then anyone. Willing to let countless numbers of men and woman die to ensure Eren lives, preferring him to stay out of conflicts way, having this dead set idea that the Scouting Legion will not rely on Eren for victory they only need him like a key to unlock the way further, deeper, into the mitts of this war. Viewing Eren more like an item or an escort than another soldier, his purpose as a solider ended with his extra 15 meters.
Over all you could say Erwin is over powered. Having been in the Scouting Legion for 5 years, going though, as far as we know, one other commanding officer (and most likely more) watching them break as more than just men, but as people. Taking lead and saving many lives with his excellent tactical skills and decisive plans and missions. Respected by all for countless reasons, one to note is his Lance Corporal who is known to be the world’s strongest man, only listening to Erwin’s orders and no one else. If you’ve ever gotten a smile form Erwin it’s likely he sees potential in you, worth. Not being completely dead inside, his emotions are there just difficult for him to express at the right times. Almost like his feelings are on dial up and the connection always seems to ruin your conversation. It’s the people that see passed his suppressed emotions that respect him even more so then those who simply respect out of fear or admiration.
As for Erwin’s weaknesses.. His people skills are lacking but also in the same respects advanced. What normal people fear in a person like Hange Zoe Erwin see’s potential, looking past her crazed exterior to see a brilliant scientist on the inside. Being one for ‘What can you do and provide’ over ‘Are you socially expectable?’ Of course she had earned her right to an officer rank, having worked from a cadet up. Another potential weakness is his inability to understand emotion. I’ve covered it over and over again but Erwin’s development is shaky. He’s in no way completely emotionless like others in that trope but he surely can’t relate to a grieving mother—not in the same respect. Over all, if Erwin was to live to see the end of war I doubt he’d be able to live around other people, other normal people. His unfamiliarity with expression would take him far outside the walls to live without judgment, weather the sudden lack of socialization would torture him is not know. He spends a lot of time with others I don’t think Erwin is cut out for solitude; he’s honestly, truly, sacrificed himself to humanities cause.
Though, if a trope is what you want then a trope is what you get for Erwin is everything that makes up a leader right down to being a stoic adult male with blonde nicely kept hair. Responsible, strategic, and a father to his men. One of those characters you need in shonen anime to ensure the protagonist has flaws.
